The engines of the series 50 are part of the worlds most build engines. (Like the BR52 and the American diesel of the type F and GP). More than 3000 engines have been build in different countries in Europe till the years 50. These engines towed merchandise wagons and at the end of the steam period we could find them besides the BR41, BR44 and BR52.
