This engine is the oldest one in our collection. She was used on the local railway between Groenendael and Overijse.
Most local railways were build as narrow track (1m), but this one is build for “normal” track (1,435m). There were only 2 other local railways build with normal track: Dolhain – Eupen and Sprimont – Poulseur. This normal track prevented cargo handling between the 2 companies. (Local railway and the Belgian railway)
15 of these engines were build for the 3 local railway lines. To prevent long shunting times, there were equipped with 2 driver cabins. That’s why they got the name “Bi-cabines”. To prevent scaring horses and citizens they were entirely covered with steel plates. Don’t forget they passed trough the villages.
This engine was in passenger service until 1949 and in merchandise service up to 1960.
Property of AMUTRA and stored in good condition in our museum. It was transferred 12 September 1985.
And returned in service again for the "Steam Festival 2007". |
